Geographic Information System (GIS) & Survey's Drone Program

Importance of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology to GIS

With the ability to autonomously collect a range of data, businesses of all types are racing to take advantage of drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). A GIS is only as good as the data submitted to it. UAVs can quickly and inexpensively feed the GIS a stunning array of data. However, utilizing UAVs for data collection is no small task.

Like GIS systems, UAVs are flexible tools able to satisfy a wide range of professional needs. The advent of light-weight, high-performance UAVs has disrupted many industries in the past decade, a trend that will not being slow down anytime soon. With the ability to independently collect a range of data, businesses of all types are racing to take advantage of drones. In fact, the FAA estimates that by 2022 there will be nearly half a million registered commercial-use UAVs in the United States (Source: FAA 2018 - 2038 Aerospace Forecast.)
