Recycling
Recycling is an important part of waste management in any community, reducing the strain on landfills, conserving natural resources, and minimizing the impact on the environment.
Douglas County Solid Waste offers the following drop-off recycling options throughout the county:
- 24-hour Recycling Trailers (Locations throughout the County)
- Community Recycling Centers (City of Bridgeport, City of Rock Island, Town of Waterville)
- Zacher Processing Facility (East Wenatchee)
Aluminum & Tin Cans
Aluminum and tin cans are accepted at the 24-hour recycling trailer, Community Recycling Centers, and Zacher Processing Facility.

Douglas County Solid Waste is now accepting household appliances for recycling at all county recycling centers and the Zacher Processing Facility. A small fee applies.
Accepted Household Appliances (Freon-Free): $15.00 fee per appliance

Accepted Appliances Containing Freon: $30.00 fee per appliance

- Household refrigerators (Note: RV refrigerators are not accepted)
- Air conditioning units (Note: RV air conditioners are not accepted)
Pricing
Prices vary by location. For recycling centers within city or town limits, please contact the respective city hall for pricing information and payment options. Zacher Processing Facility Pricing: $15 for non-Freon appliances; $30 for Freon-containing appliances
Batteries
All types of batteries (except Tesla batteries) can be accepted at the Community Recycling Centers and Zacher Processing Facility.
Cardboard
Clean, flattened cardboard is accepted at all 24-hour recycling trailers. No food soiled or wet cardboard can be accepted.
Recyclable Electronics
Residential households, small business, charities, school districts and small government offices can recycle accepted electronics through the state's E-Cycle Washington Program. The items are disassembled, and the parts are recycled into new, useable items.
Where: Currently the Douglas County Solid Waste Zacher Processing Facility in East Wenatchee is the only location that can accept electronics for recycling.

Non-Recyclable Electronics
Unfortunately, computer peripherals such as keyboards, mice and printers are not included in this program. These items can and should be recycled as well. Drop-off locations for peripherals such as keyboards, mice and printers, are:

Fluorescent Lightbulbs
Effective January 1, 2026 we are unable to accept fluorescent tubes and mercury-containing lightbulbs at all recycling locations due to the LightRecyle Washington program currently being in transition. Paint Recycling
Residents of Douglas County can use the Recycling Centers listed below that are designated drop-off sites for Washington's PaintCare Paint Stewardship Program.

Accepted
The following are PaintCare products included in the program. When purchased, the PaintCare fee is applied. These products are accepted at no additional cost when dropped off at PaintCare's participating drop-off sites.
- Interior and exterior architectural paints: latex, acrylic, water-based, alkyd, oil-based, enamel (including textured coatings)
- Deck coatings, floor paints (including elastomeric)
- Primers, sealers, undercoaters
- Stains
- Shellacs, lacquers, varnishes, urethanes (single component)
- Waterproofing concrete/masonry/wood sealers and repellents (not tar or bitumen-based)
- Metal coatings, rust preventatives
- Field and lawn paints
Not Accepted
The following are non-PaintCare products and are not included in the program. When purchased, the PaintCare fee is not applied. They are not accepted at PaintCare's participating drop-off sites.
- Paint thinners, mineral spirits, solvents
- Aerosol paints (spray cans)
- Auto and marine paints
- Art and craft paints
- Caulking compounds, epozies, glues, adhesives
- Paint additives, colorants, tints, resins
- Wood preservatives (containing pesticides)
- Roof patch and repair
- Asphalt, tar and bitumen-based products
- 2-component coatings
- Deck cleaners
- Traffic and road marking paints
- Industrial Maintenance (IM) coatings
- Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) (shop application) paints and finishes
- Containers that are leaking or empty, and containers without the original printed manufacturer's label are not accepted at retail drop-off sites

To Be Accepted at Drop-Off:
- Products must be in their original containers
- No larger than 5 gallons in size
- Must have the original manufacturer's printed label on the container
- Must be covered with a secured lid
Paint Recycling Locations
Paint can be recycled at all Douglas County Community Recycling Centers and the Zacher Processing Facility. View Locations.
NOTE: Please call ahead to confirm business hours and ask if they can accept the type and amount of paint you'd like to recycle. Once the paint recycling bin at a facility has been filled, they cannot accept any more used product until the bin has been replaced. These locations accept ALL brands of paint. Sites DO NOT accept aerosols (spray paint), leaking, unlabeled, or empty containers.
Paper & Clean Paper Food Containers
Newspaper, magazines, catalogs, phonebooks, paperback books, mail (plastic window envelopes ok), paper bags, and food boxes. Empty and clean paper cups, cartons, and boxes can all be recycled at the 24-hour recycling trailers.
Please do NOT bring:
- Plastic-lined or waxy cups or containers
- Food-soiled or wet paper
- Shredded paper
Plastic
Bottle shape with screw-off lid preferred. Only PETE #1 and HDPE #2 plastics are accepted. DO NOT put small plastic lids in the recycling, they should be thrown away. These can all be recycled at the 24-hour recycling trailers.
"Sharps" such as needles or syringes can be taken to these drop-off sites listed below.
Accepted are residential sharps only, no other medical waste, and must be in approved "Sharps Waste Container" which may be purchased at a local pharmacy. A leak-proof, rigid, puncture-resistant plastic container such as a liquid detergent bottle can be used. Once full, reinforce the lid the heavy-duty tape (duct tape), and label the container.

Douglas County's waste tire collection relies on a state-level recycling program. Waste tires can be dropped off at the Solid Waste Zacher Processing Center during its operating hours. Please note the following:
- We only accept passenger vehicle tires and prefer to have the rim removed.
- A maximum of 10 tires can be dropped off load.
- No tractor, airplane, forklift, or semi truck tires.
- We are now charging a small $5.00 fee per tire.
Waste tires are also accepted at the annual Free Disposal Day. Visit the Collection Events page for more information and to request a ticket when they are available.

Some private businesses will accept tires for a small fee. Please call to confirm.
