Douglas County is beginning a Countywide Agricultural Land Analysis to evaluate agricultural resource lands across the county. The purpose of this study is to determine whether certain properties should remain designated as agricultural resource lands or be considered for redesignation to rural, and vice versa.
This analysis is required by state law before any changes to the County’s Comprehensive Plan or zoning maps can be considered. The process will be guided by criteria established in the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and will include a combination of technical review and public engagement.
Project Phases & Timeline
- Technical Review (Now through Summer 2026):
The County will conduct a technical and GIS-based review of agricultural land conditions. - Informational Open House is scheduled for February 25, 2026:
An initial opportunity for the public to learn about the project will be offered while technical analysis is underway. - Stakeholder & Community Engagement (Summer 2026):
The County will engage with stakeholders, local experts, and community members to better understand local conditions relevant to the analysis. - Draft Report (Late 2026):
A draft report will be released for public review and discussion. - Final Report & Next Steps (2027):
