Douglas County Courthouse Facilitator Program

The Douglas County Courthouse Facilitator assists self-represented parties with their family law cases in Douglas County Superior Court. A person is self-represented if he or she is not represented by an attorney. The Facilitator can provide information about court procedures and assist you with legal forms.

The Facilitator is not a lawyer and cannot give you legal advice. You are encouraged to consult with a lawyer about your legal rights and responsibilities and what is best for you in your situation. When you meet with the Facilitator, you will be asked to sign a disclaimer informing you of these limitations on the program's services.

CAN CANNOT
CAN assist with these cases: Divorce/Legal Separation/Annulment, Parenting Plan/Residential Schedules, Child Support, Non Parent Visitations, Modifications (Child Support and Parenting Plan), Minor and Regular Guardianships (limited), Family Law Restraining Orders, and Paternity Cases (Limited) CANNOT assist with these cases: Adoptions, Wills/Estates/Probates, Name Changes, Bankruptcy, Criminal/Juvenile Cases, Dependency Cases, Traffic Infractions, Evictions, and Property/Separation Agreements
CAN Provide: Basic Information on Court Procedures, Approved Court Forms, Explanation of Legal Terms, Assistance with Completing Approved Forms or Calculating Child Support, Referral to Resources, and Review Completed Forms to Meet Procedural Requirements CANNOT Provide the Litigant with: Assistance Drafting Documents/Forms , Assistance if represented by an Attorney, Legal Advice, Legal Representation, Assistance on Complex Cases (and may suggest legal representation), Separation/Property Agreements, Help filling out Quit Claim Deeds/Excise Tax Forms, Will/Estate Prep, Filing documents on litigants behalf, tracking of cases and filling out forms for litigants. 

Appointments

To request an appointment with the Court Facilitator please fill out the form below. The Court Facilitator will review your form prior contacting you to schedule an appointment. Please note, the Court Facilitator may decline to meet with you if they determine they cannot assist with your case. 

*We are unable to offer walk-in services at this time.

Facilitator Fee

A Facilitator fee of $30 must be paid prior to your appointment. You can pay with cash, check or money order. Credit/debit cards are accepted at the Clerk's counter or by telephone/online services through our Payment Portal; visit the Payment by Credit Card page to learn more about convenience fees, etc. associated with online payments. 

The Facilitator fee is non-refundable. A one-hour block of time will be held for you at your scheduled time. If you are late to your appointment, you will have whatever time is remaining of that hour to work with the Facilitator. If you miss your appointment you will need to pay to schedule another, unless prior arrangements are made. 

A reduced Facilitator fee may be accepted. Please ask the Facilitator if you qualify.
